It was pretty interesting to read this article and contrast it with a piece that was on Kurt Andersen’s show, Studio 360, the other day - about how the music of every decade has its distinctive sound. Yay - or boo! Autotune.

In the Sorting Office →
sounds like everyone gets screwed in the privatization of the post office - the workers, the customers, and eventually the corporations that the postal service has become. Although, someone needs to raise bulk mail prices so that I stop getting Reader’s Digests, Victoria’s Secret and Publishers’ Clearing House every. single. day.

Train of Thought: On the ‘Subway’ Photographs by... →
Often I try to remember what New York was like when I was a kid. What the street felt like. And I see photos and think, was it really that gritty and crappy? I remember walking up the Bowery with my parents from one grandparents’ apartment to the other. I was a kid growing up in the suburbs, so walking felt far, but never felt unsafe, but maybe that’s because I didn’t know any...

Social media in the 16th Century: How Luther went... →
Apparently in my world it was Martin Luther week - a few days after I read this, a biography on ML broadcast on PBS. Even for all the public television melodrama-reenactment scenes, his life was pretty crazy! I hazily remember this era from art history class in college, but it’s a bit more intriguing to me now. I need to find a good history/novel for further reading….

The Rise and Fall of Columbia Music Club →
I was addicted to Columbia House and BMG in the 90s. I think I still have the B52’s “Cosmic Thing” on a cassette. There was something so magical about receiving this huge shipment of music in the mail for ONE PENNY. I do regret not sending back Blind Melon though.

Read this because @jakedobkin favorited it on Instapaper.
So many awesome and unbelievable things about octopuses - they only live a few years and they are REALLY smart. I try to imagine what it would be like to see with your skin.

And that’s when you know you’ve been caught out, that you’ve squandered what time you had, that you must trust this house of concrete you’ve built to stand up to the sea. Your wife joins you on the second-floor terrace, reporting that she, too, saw the neighbor’s house wash away. “We should run,” she says, but you say, “It’s too late.”...

Watch the first episode of The Perennial Plate. This was filmed over Thanksgiving and brings you very close to your turkey. Not for the squeamish, but a must watch if you eat meat.. and even if you don’t! This is the first episode of this weekly show, all about sustainable, adventurous and Minnesotan eating.
The perfect video to watch this Thanksgiving week. I will always remember the...

Equitable development is an approach to creating healthy, vibrant, communities of opportunity. Equitable outcomes come about when smart, intentional strategies are put in place to ensure that low-income communities and communities of color participate in and benefit from decisions that shape their neighborhoods and regions.
